Alix Philippe. Belgium °1984

Alix is a figurative painter who trained at the Fine Art Academy of Boitsfort in Brussels.

Her initial inspiration comes from characters and places found in her daily life, photographing friends and family but especially strangers unaware in public places such as markets, restaurants or stations. Her compositions depict isolated people lost in thought and often in movement, which seem withdrawn from their everyday lives. Her paintings could be described as “moments in between”, without beginning and end. And while she captures a moment of emotion and the intimacy of characters, the viewers are lured into a story. The painters Michaël Borremans, Edward Hopper and Peter Doig along with the photographer William Eggleston are her main influences.
